Surrounded by some of the most enchanting, snow-covered mountains in British Columbia, the Halcyon area offers endless opportunities to explore on your snowmobile. Revelstoke is world-renowned for its incredible snowmobiling terrain. A great place to explore all the snowmobile trails Revelstoke has to offer is the Revelstoke Snowmobile Club. In the Nakusp Area, the Arrow Lakes ATV Club maintains a trail network, and also organizes events like group rides, poker runs and camp outs.
From great ski areas like Revelstoke Mountain Resort and family-friendly Summit Lake to self-propelled alpine touring opportunities and world-class heli-skiing with operators like Canadian Mountain Holidays, endless alpine opportunities await you in the mountains surrounding Halcyon. If cross-country skiing or snowshoeing are more your style, both local ski areas offer Nordic trails, while the Revelstoke Nordic Ski Club features 26 kilometers of groomed trails – along with 6 kilometers of lit trails for night skiing.
Ice fishing on Summit Lake
For those looking to catch their dinner or just have some winter fun, head Summit Lake Provincial Park, just south of Nakusp, and venture out onto the frozen ice to try and catch a big one. A popular local ice-fishing destination, Summit Lake is home to rainbow and cutthroat trout. Please make sure the ice is well frozen before going out on it, and according to provincial regulations, you’ll need a fishing permit before heading out.
If you’re looking for an adventurous winter day trip opportunity from Halcyon, why not try dog sledding. Revelstoke Dogsled Adventures offers guided dogsled tours through the beautiful Revelstoke area. You can try “mushing” the dogs yourself, or simply sit in the sleigh and enjoy watching the scenery race by as a team of authentic Alaskan racing huskies whisks you along the trail.
Arts and Culture
If the weather is socked in, or you’re just looking for a down day, both Nakusp and Revelstoke offer a variety of arts and culture events. Both communities are home to a variety of art galleries, movie theatres, and performance events. To get listing of performances, check out the Arrow Lakes Arts Council and the Revelstoke Arts Council. If history is more your style, great opportunities await. The Nakusp and District Museum is home to more than 5,500 artifacts from early life on the Arrow Lakes, while the Revelstoke Railway Museum offers exhibits of 19th century railroad equipment.
